Hill House (in progress)
New residence
A two-storey residence designed for multigenerational living on a south-facing, sloping site. The location offers broad coastal views and sits within a bushfire zone, both factors which are fundamental in shaping the building’s form and materials. The design prioritises a northern orientation, with the main living area opening to a north-facing courtyard. Large lightwells cut through the structure to bring light into the lower level, addressing the challenges of the slope.
The building’s layout and detailing respond to its surroundings. Materials and forms reference the local context, using time honoured and durable finishes suited to the environment. The focus is on functionality—connecting indoor and outdoor spaces, managing light, and accommodating the needs of different generations. The result is a practical, grounded structure that works with the site rather than against it.
